Tools and equipment stolen in allotment raid.

Thieves smashed their way into sheds and stole £1,000 of tools and equipment in a raid at Acton allotments.

The burglars struck at the site in Bromyard Avenue in the middle of the night last Tuesday. They took a petrol-driven generator, three rotavators and a strimmer.

Michael Wale, secretary of the Acton gardening Association, said: “We have a shop and store in a steel shipping container, that was broken into. I would have thought you wouldve needed almost a tank to do that so they must have brought metal tools. It was professional.

“They tried to get through the gate opposite the King Fahad Academy but the locks were too good and they went round the main gate and lifted the machinery over. They had to be fit, young guys to get the equipment over it.

“It was fireworks week so there would have been a large amount of fireworks going off. People might not have noticed someone hammering the gate. They mustve [sic] had a huge hammer with the damage they did.

“They did a lot of damage to sheds as well but we advise people not to keep machinery in sheds so not a lot was taken from there apart from two rotavators.

“Police combed the area for clues the following day and are appealing for help to track down the raiders.
